Today the Dup15q Alliance community mourns the loss of Gary Lee Bennett, husband of the founder of the Dup15q Alliance (originally IDEAS), Donna Bennett. Their family's dedication to the creation of a community for those affected by dup15q syndrome is nothing short of astounding. Gary will be missed, but as Donna said on the phone yesterday, "he is in a better place than us now". Please keep the Bennett family in your thoughts and prayers

Gary Lee Bennett, age 79, of Thomasville, died peacefully at York Hospital, Wednesday, February 19, 2020. Born in Baltimore, MD on February 16, 1941, he was the son of the late Donald S. and Glays I. (Davis) Bennett. Gary was the loving husband of 48 years of Donna M. (Brennerman) Bennett.

Gary was a graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School. He went on to serve the US Air-force during the Vietnam War, working as a missile technician with the ICBM Minuteman Missile. Following his time in the service, Gary received his associate's degree in mechanical drafting from Penn Sate University and also his associate's degree in business administration from Consolidated School of Business. He worked as a mechanical draftsman for Allis-Chalmers and Motter Printing Press and Engel Machinery. He attended of York Bible Church. Gary enjoyed reading, hunting, and fishing. He especially loved to spend time a the family cabin in Bedford County.

In addition to his wife Donna, Gary is survived by his son Joshua D. Bennett of York, his daughter Elizabeth S. Bennett of East Berlin, his brother Stephen Bennett, and his wife Shirley of Spotsylvania, VA his brother Phillip Bennett, and his wife Joan of State Line, and his sister Donna J. Rowland, and her husband Kenneth of York.

A funeral service to celebrate Gary's life with be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 11:30am from the York Bible Church, 890 Taxville Road, York, PA 17408, with Pastor Sutter officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery in Clearville, Bedford County at 3:00pm. There will be viewing at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 East Market Street, York, PA 17403 on Friday, February 21, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00pm and again at the church on Saturday from 10:30 until the time of service.
